Seven of us set off from Springwood Picnic area on today's ride, heading through Whalley, past the Abbey, and out towards Mitton. We then header up through Chaigley up to Chipping and on to Cobble Hey for a well deserved lunch stop. The morning had been dull, with a hint of drizzle, but not enough to dampen spirits and waterproofs were not required.
At Cobble Hey we were joined by riders from the long run, who had been over Harris End Fell, for the return journey around Beacon Fell, and down into Longridge for a second Coffee stop, before returning through Ribchester, Brockhall village, and finally back to Springwood.
A total of 40 miles covered, and thoroughly enjoyed by all, despite nearly being knocked off by a low flying pheasant on the way to Chipping.

Seven riders left Higherford under dull skies to climb over Blacko and the fast descent to Gisburn. Collecting another rider there we then made good progress through the lanes to Wigglesworth and the fast road across Settle Flats. The cafe at Horton in Ribblesdale provided a welcome coffee stop and split the climb to Ribblehead. Descending towards Ingleton there were fine views of Ingleborough before we diverted off the main road to a delightful lane - newly tarmaced - via Chapel le Dale into Ingleton for lunch.
The skies brightened somewhat after lunch but the shock of climbing up the steep lane from Ingleton to Clapham surprised a few. The route home was via Austwick, Lawkland, Rathmell, Paythorne and Barnoldswick. 67 miles in all - club personal bests for Dorothy Altham, Peter Bradford and Mark Clegg.

Six of us set out on this misty October morning, heading up from Langroyd via Earby, West Marton, Bank Newton and Gargrave, before dropping into Malham for a well deserved lunch stop.
We then headed up to see Janet's Foss (main picture) and Gordale Scar (above left).
On the return journey, the mist finally decided to lift, allowing the sun to break through,
We then split into two groups, one riding the bridleway through Stainton Cote, the other dropping back into Gargrave for coffee and scones, before taking the canal towpath back to Colne.

For the first time in many years we organised a joint ride with our neighbours Blackburn CTC. Our destination was Morecambe on a glorious sunny day. Some riders started from Blackburn, Longridge and Garstang with the full group coming together in Pilling, making 20 riders in total. We made good progress in flat terrain to Conder Green and then took the cycle track to Lancaster, over the Millenium Bridge, picking up another cycle path to Morecambe for lunch.
Morecambe was quite busy but we enjoyed a ride up the Promenade with fine views across to the Lakeland Fells. We then diverted onto the Lancaster canal towpath and crossed the River Lune by the aqueduct. The group split after the this, the short ride returning to Pilling via Lancaster whilst the medium riders continued to Caton and Quernmore, the Blackburn bound riders climbing Harris End Fell to return home via Longridge. The remaining riders returned to Garstang via Scorton. Altogether a very successful and enjoyable ride – Clarets vs Rovers not being mentioned once!

Five riders started out on this ride in good sunny weather - albeit with the shock of an early climb over Skipton Old Rd to get the legs going. A rapid descent to Lothersdale and then panaromic views of the Aire valley were reward for the hard work. The centre of Skipton was reasonably quiet and after a photo op at the castle we were soon on the gentler territory around Embsay to descend to Bolton Abbey for a coffee (and for some, cake stop.) A steep climb out of the valley passing (apparently) the oldest tree in Yorkshire (The Laund Oak - pictured) brought us into the gorgeous valleys around Appletreewick and lunch at Burnsall. Our route home was via Linton, (no one was persuaded to cycle through the ford!) Cracoe and Gargrave.
47 miles with some notable hill climbing left us tired but satisfied with a day's challenging ride."

Five riders took part in this medium ride with some fairly easy miles to start via Ribchester (pausing at the River Ribble to watch the canoeists prepare to enter the water) then up to Longridge and back lanes to Chipping. We then climbed up through Little Bowland past the Wild Boar Farm and a swift descent to Burholme Bridge and to lunch at Dunsop Bridge Village Hall - great sarnies, cakes and a vat of tea! We chose to return via Whitewell, Bashall Eaves, Waddington and Chatburn. No massive hills today but enough to keep us interested and feel we'd had a good ride. 53 miles in total so congratulations to Gary and Peter for their first 50 mile+ rides!"

A record number of riders turned out for our August Beginners ride - 19 in all! On a lovely sunny day the group left Spring Wood, to descend to Whalley and then following the lanes to Bashall Eaves. A short climb to Browsholme followed by a descent through back lanes to Waddington found the cafe most welcoming. After suitable refreshment the group returned via West Bradford, Chatburn, Worston, Pendleton and Wiswell. About 20 miles in all at a gentle pace.
Many thanks to existing members who came on the ride and assisted and generally made newcomers welcome and we hope to see newcomers again on our various rides.
